Enquanto os olhos vagueiam por imagens, as frases ecoam como um lembrete da nossa própria inércia. "How comfortable are you?" questiona a nossa tranquilidade enquanto testemunhamos o sofrimento alheio. "Do you feel relaxed?" declara-se como uma tentativa de sugerir e provocar uma reflexão sobre a calma que mantemos face ao sentimento de incapacidade para alterar o rumo das coisas da vida. E "Does this amuse you?" desafia a nossa aparente insensibilidade perante o espetáculo da tragédia humana.
Para isso, a partir de desenhos realizados a grafite e canetas de cor, procurei criar diversas representações do que é uma explosão, pretendendo que estas não sejam apenas imagens para contemplar, mas sim um apelo ao despertar da letargia emocional que muitas vezes aprisiona. Reconhecendo que apesar de nos sentirmos confortáveis nos nossos lugares de privilégio, o mundo ao nosso redor precisa de ação e iniciativa.
E cabe a cada um de nós decidir o que fazer.
Sobre a artista:
Martinha Maia vive e trabalha em São Mamede do Coronado.
Trabalha com diferentes meios, como o desenho, a instalação e a performance. Tem realizado e participado em diversas exposições.
Das individuais destaca: Anatemnõ, Casa-Museu Abel Salazar, em 2022; Coleópteros, Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis, em 2019. E das coletivas, realça as seguintes: Cores vistas de dentro para fora, Fundação Gramaxo, 2024; Festival Iminente 2022; Bienal Internacional de linho de Portneuf, Quebec, Canadá, 2021; Studiolo XXI Desenho e Afinidades, Fundação Eugénio de Almeida, Évora, 2019; Da Fábrica que desvanece à baía do Tejo, Parque Empresarial Baía do Tejo (Quimiparque), 2014 ; e 30anos do CAM, Ciclos de performance, CAM, 2013.
É licenciada em Artes Plásticas pela ESAD-CR.

MUPI Gallery is a dedicated image gallery that was inaugurated in May 2015 in the foyer of the performance hall at Maus Hábitos. Since then, it has been hosting a diverse program of individual exhibitions by local and international artists in different states of emergence.
The primary objectives of Mupi Gallery are to support the creation of new works and visual experiences while promoting the artistic journey of the invited artists. It challenges them to present a new solo artwork that takes advantage of the unique characteristics and prominent display format. Additionally, it aims to showcase the national contemporary art scene by introducing the solid work of local artists as well as emerging names in the visual arts.
As a gallery dedicated to individual exhibitions, Mupi Gallery complements the artistic programming of Saco Azul/Maus Hábitos. It provides a contrast to the exhibition hall's program, which focuses on artistic encounters and dialogue through collective and crossover exhibitions.
Saco Azul invites one artist per month to occupy the backlit triptych, promoting the creation of works that utilize images as a means of contemporary artistic expression. Through production grants, it affirms or questions the role of images in the present day. Comprising three urban advertising communication Mupis provided by JcDecaux to Maus Hábitos, this gallery is not only interesting for its physical characteristics but also for its cultural impact and inherent commercial connotation. The artist is challenged to react or interact with this structure, embracing all its capabilities and connotations.
